My Approach
Counselling that honours both grief and love
Every person's experience of grief is unique.
No two relationships are the same, and no two experiences of loss are the same. Because of this, I don't believe there is a single "right" way to grieve or a one-size-fits-all approach to counselling.
My role is to meet you where you are, with compassion, curiosity and respect, and to walk alongside you as you make sense of your own experience.
We begin with your story.
Always.
Every Grief Story Begins with Love
Grief is not a problem to solve.
It is a natural response to loving deeply.
Many people come to counselling worried that they should be "moving on" or feeling differently by now. My approach is different.
Rather than encouraging you to let go of the person or life you have lost, I believe healing often involves discovering new ways of carrying love while gradually rebuilding a life that still holds meaning and hope.
Grief and love can exist together.
A Person-Centred Approach
At the heart of my practice is the belief that every person deserves to be heard, respected and accepted without judgement.
Our counselling relationship is collaborative. You are the expert on your own life and experiences. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to offer a safe, supportive space where together we can explore your thoughts, emotions and experiences.
We work at a pace that feels right for you.
There is no pressure to share more than you feel ready to.
Understanding the Whole Person
Grief affects much more than our emotions.
It can impact our physical wellbeing, relationships, sense of identity, spiritual beliefs, work, sleep, confidence and hopes for the future.
My approach considers the whole person rather than focusing only on symptoms. Together we can explore how grief is affecting different areas of your life and identify ways to support your wellbeing as a whole.
Evidence-Informed, Compassion-Led
My practice draws on approaches that are supported by current research in grief counselling and psychotherapy.
Depending on your individual needs, this may include ideas from:
- Person-centred counselling
- Attachment-informed practice
- Contemporary grief theory
- Meaning-making approaches
- Mindfulness and self-compassion
- Gentle emotional regulation strategies
These approaches are never used as a rigid formula. Instead, they are thoughtfully integrated to meet your unique needs.
A Safe Place for Difficult Conversations
Sometimes grief brings emotions we didn't expect.
All of these experiences are welcome.
There is no "right" way to feel.
Together we create a space where every part of your experience can be explored safely and without judgement.
What You Can Expect
When we work together, you can expect:
- Compassion and kindness
- Genuine presence
- Respect for your individual story
- Honest and collaborative conversations
- Practical support when helpful
- Evidence-informed care
- A pace that feels comfortable for you
Above all, I hope you leave each session feeling that you have been heard, understood and that you don't have to carry your grief alone.
My Commitment to You
I cannot promise to take away your grief.
Grief reflects the significance of what has been lost.
What I can offer is a safe and compassionate space where your grief can be honoured, your strengths gently rediscovered, and your journey supported with care and respect.
It would be a privilege to walk alongside you.
I draw on evidence-informed approaches to help you understand your emotions, regulate overwhelming feelings, strengthen resilience and make sense of your experience. Counselling is always tailored to your individual needs and goals.
